About Lana Shadwick
Lana Shadwick is a life-long Republican who has been active in Harris County with the Republican Party for almost twenty years. She is an Assistant District Attorney serving in the finest state prosecutorial appellate section in our nation – the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. She is responsible for assisting trial prosecutors with legal issues and for being a criminal law scholar. She has always been a scholar, having served as an Editor of the law review and as a Briefing Attorney at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals. She has been practicing law for almost twenty years and has almost six years of experience as an associate judge. She is fifty-four years of age.
As an appellate prosecutor, Lana Shadwick must resolve the same issues that are decided by a felony criminal district court judge. On appeal, she responds to defendants seeking to have their felony conviction reversed by alleging trial judge error, e.g., that the judge failed to grant a motion to suppress unconstitutional evidence or submitted an improper jury charge. Unlike a trial prosecutor, she has the opportunity to spend her days researching and analyzing the complex nuances of the law. It is well-known among attorneys that trial lawyers consult appellate lawyers on the law. She has handled all of the types of felony cases that she will preside over in felony court, including capital murder cases. She has managed a court docket and presided over a busy court. She is well-equipped to be on the bench again. Her qualifications and extensive Curriculum Vitae appear on the Qualifications page.
Lana Shadwick has been concerned about the plight of Texas children and families throughout her twenty year legal career. She has sought justice and protection for young innocents and victims as a prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and as an associate judge in Harris County District Family Court. Judge Shadwick is considered a legal expert in the area of child abuse law and evidence and she has served as a writer and a lecturer in the state for years. She has presented her scholarly papers at seminars for the State Bar of Texas, the Texas District and County Attorney Association, and for local Bar Associations throughout Texas. As noted in The Prosecutor, her scholarly legal articles were used to create a website used by Texas District and County Attorneys to assist them in prosecuting their cases. Her newsletter was distributed to judges and county and district attorneys statewide. She was appointed by the Vice President of the State Bar to serve on the State Bar of Texas Child Abuse and Neglect Committee. Her desire is that all victims of crime have justice.
Judge Shadwick has earned the overwhelming support of Republican elected officials, SREC, SD and precinct chairs and party activists. They know that she is as well-qualified as she is a proven Republican. They understand that her temperament, kindness, respect, and sincere concern for others, are qualities that are important in a judge. Her maturity, veracity, character, and life experience also resonates with them and they like her broad perspective. She also has a well-run campaign and a strong campaign team that will lead her to victory. Her Facebook campaign page and website show her fellow Republicans that she cares about their support – they see that she is out there with them at their events.
Judge Shadwick has caught the attention of and was recently honored by TexasGOPVote.com. In October, she was quoted along with Congressman John Culberson and Houston Area Pastor’s Council’s Dave Welch in an article about religious freedom at our VA cemetery. In December, she was named in their weekly “Voice of the Conservative Vote.” She was also one of the first candidates of this primary season to receive the endorsement of the Texas Conservative Review. She will continue to gain the support from other individuals and organizations. She will proudly represent us on the 179th Criminal District Court.
